Mercury-Redstone-1A launched on December 19, 1960 and was the replacement mission for the failed Mercury-Redstone 1 mission. Although the same Mercury capsule (Mercury spacecraft #2) was used, the Redstone rocket was replaced for the second attempt.
The mission lasted a total of 15 minutes and 45 seconds and was successful. The capsule was recovered by helicopters 15 minutes after splashdown in the Atlantic.
The Mercury capsule reached an altitude of 210 km and traveled a distance of 375 km. The Mercury capsule was launched with the Redstone rocket MRLV-3.
